Practices of ecotourism in the Private Natural Heritage Reserves

The Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPN) is the category of Brazilian protected area which is created by the voluntary act of the private owner in order to preserve the ecosystems in perpetuity. In protected areas, the ecotourism is the best tourism modality to integrate the goals of conservation and the compatible use of the environment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the importance of the RPPN to the ecotourism and its role in the ecosystems conservation. The studied sample was 14 RPPNs, according to the criteria of the ecotourism presence and representativiness on the different biomes of Brazil. The results revealed successful practices and great tourism potential in the RPPNs, however, the ecotourism, as an instrument for the conservation of ecosystems; it is still an incipient reality.
