Abstract

Urban sustainability presents itself as a development perspective that aims to reduce socio-environmental impacts in cities. Among so many concepts and models that provide the basis for sustainable urban development, that of urban hospitality is also promising. Going deeper and seeking to understand the complexity of urbanity, it is clear that urban art presents interconnections with both hospitality and sustainability. The city of João Pessoa has a Law that determines that buildings above 1000m² of constructed area have a work of art exposed for the enjoyment of the population. Given the above, this research sought to understand the relationship between urban hospitality, art and sustainability in the city, based on Municipal Law 11.649/2009. In addition, it aimed to analyze the impacts resulting from this Law in the daily life of the population of the Manaíra neighborhood. Characterized as an exploratory and descriptive research, the quali-quantitative method and an in-depth literature review were used. The importance of art in promoting sustainability and urban hospitality was verified. In addition to realizing that the population does not recognize the application of Law 11.649/2009 as an obligation, but that it perceives and exalts works of art in their routine.
